Home Security

"Home Security"

There aren't many places in this world that you feel most secure at than at home.

That feeling of security can breed complacency and unawareness that can catch you unprepared for an emergency or break-in.

While nothing can be completely secure, you can make your home reasonably secure without really hindering your daily routine and lifestyle.

I would like to discuss some products for your home's security.

A couple of great affordable options for making your home more secure are:
Lock Jaw Door Security Device

The Lock Jaw is a great option for anyone with a bolt-locked door. This prevents anyone from picking the deadbolt or even unlocking the deadbolt with a key. Even if they can pick the lock or have a key, the Lock Jaw prevents the bolt lock from turning! This is a great tool to use at nighttime before going to bed. It's affordable at only $20, and mounts easily

Master Lock Door Security Bar

This is a great option for anyone. You simply place the u-shaped end right underneath against the bottom of the door knob, and push the bottom end of the security bar in towards the door with your foot. This helps prevent the door from being opened from the outside, whether or not the door is locked! Very affordable at about $14! You can also remove the u-shaped attachment and use the security bar on sliding doors! It's a great option while vacationing, leaving only one door without the bar in place.

GE Wireless Door/Window Alarm

Wireless alarms are a good way to alert you to an open window or open door when someone is breaking in. The alarms aren't very loud, but they should be loud enough to hear something from anywhere in your home. The alarm itself might cause a burglar to re-think his actions. Most are simply taped to the surface for mounting. Alarm is able to be turned off by a flick of the switch, whether being done by you or a home intruder.

Alarm Systems

Alarm systems are a great tool for deterring criminals (a criminal is less likely to rob a house with an ADT sign out front than one without) and assisting in locating where the intruder broke-in (on the interactive alarm panels). The alarm is also very loud and alerts neighbors that something might be wrong. Broadview (formerly Brinks) and ADT seem to be the two most common national alarm services. Alarm systems can obviously be disarmed, so taking you hostage and having you disarm it is a very real possibility. Especially since it would be unrealistic and unnecessary for Broadview to call every homeowner that had an alarm go off within 30 seconds of the alarm going off.

Floodlights with Motion Sensors

Floodlights are a good way to illuminate your property (and specifically your entryways), add a motion sensor, and you've likely just surprised a home intruder. Lighting up your entryways and/or property is a great way to bring attention to your home in case of a possible home invasion. Most criminals do not want to bring attention to themselves, and being lit up could cause the criminal to be seen by a passer-by or neighbor. Plus they are only around $15. If you do get floodlights without motion sensors and want to leave them on all during the night, I ask that you please grab some CFL floodlights, it will lower your energy bill and reduce carbon emissions.
